Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the Nursing Team:
- Supervise and support nursing and care staff, ensuring effective care delivery.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
- Lead the nursing care team during shifts, ensuring the nursing and personal care of residents is maintained.
- Direct Patient Care:
- Assess residents’ needs, develop and implement personalized care plans.
- Provide direct nursing care, including administering medications and treatments.
- Monitor and observe residents’ conditions, documenting changes and reporting concerns.
- Promote residents’ independence and choice in activities of daily living.
- Medication Management:
- Order, store, and administer medications according to national and local guidelines.
- Ensure accurate medication records are maintained.
- Participate in medication reviews with residents’ GPs.
- Dementia Care:
- Provide specialized care for residents with dementia, focusing on person-centered care and maintaining dignity.
- Develop and implement strategies to manage challenging behaviors.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Maintain open communication with residents, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Act as a point of contact for families and relatives.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Compliance and Quality:
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines, such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct.
- Promote and maintain high standards of care.
- Participate in audits and inspections.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
- Other Responsibilities:
- Undertake risk assessments of residents’ activities.
- Handle complaints appropriately.
- Contribute to a safe and supportive environment for residents and staff.
- Participate in staff training and development.
- Act as a role model for care staff.
